Getting started and choosing StudyChime
What is StudyChime?
StudyChime is an independent Chrome extension that monitors the Prolific studies page you keep open. It sends private study alerts through browser notifications, Discord, Telegram or Pushover.
Can I receive Prolific notifications on my phone?
Yes, including on iPhone and Android. StudyChime sends alerts from Chrome on your computer to Discord, Telegram or Pushover on your phone; the computer must stay awake with Chrome running and your signed-in Prolific studies page open.
Which browsers does StudyChime support?
StudyChime is built for Chrome and Chromium-based browsers that support Chrome extensions, such as Edge and Brave. Phone apps receive external alerts; StudyChime itself runs on your computer.
Is StudyChime a Prolific Assistant alternative?
StudyChime is an independent alternative for Prolific study notifications, with additional options including phone alerts, filters, schedules and study trends. It isn’t affiliated with Prolific and works differently from the official Prolific Assistant, so the two won’t have exactly the same features.
Is StudyChime an alternative to Prolific Studies Notifier?
StudyChime is another independent option for Prolific study notifications. Review its browser and phone notification options, monitoring requirements and free or Premium features to decide whether they fit your routine.
Is StudyChime an alternative to Prolific Telegram Alerts?

Monitoring and privacy
Does Prolific need to stay open?
Yes. StudyChime reads the visible study list on your open, signed-in Prolific studies page. If the tab closes, you sign out or the computer sleeps, it cannot keep observing new studies.
Does StudyChime automatically accept, reserve or complete studies?
No. StudyChime does not accept, reserve, complete or submit studies, or interact with studies on your behalf. Notifications are informational; a study may have filled by the time you open it.
Does StudyChime automatically refresh or reopen Prolific?
No. StudyChime does not automatically refresh or reopen Prolific in the background. It only opens Prolific when you click a button to open it.
Does StudyChime collect my Prolific login details?
StudyChime does not ask for your Prolific password, request Chrome cookie permissions or collect your participant ID. You sign in to Prolific normally; external alerts can contain visible study details, so use private destinations you control.
Why does StudyChime request alarms and scripting permissions?
Chrome can disconnect the monitoring script from an open page. A local health check can restore StudyChime's bundled script on the Prolific studies page without refreshing, navigating or modifying Prolific.
Is StudyChime affiliated with Prolific?
No. StudyChime is an independent browser extension and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or supported by Prolific.
Free features and Premium controls
Is StudyChime free?
Yes. The free version includes browser notifications, basic sound alerts, Local Milestones and a limited number of external alerts. Premium adds advanced controls and unlimited external alerts.
What is the free external-alert limit?
Free users have up to 10 external alert batches in any rolling 24-hour period, shared across Discord, Telegram and Pushover. A batch can contain several studies and go to multiple enabled providers; browser notifications and local sounds do not use this quota.
Can I snooze StudyChime from an external alert?
Yes. Premium users can opt in to a secure Snooze alerts link in Discord, Telegram and Pushover. Each link works once for up to six hours and offers 30 minutes, one hour, the next active schedule window or tomorrow. The selected snooze is applied locally to the registered browser.
Can I filter Prolific notifications by reward or hourly rate?
Yes, with Premium. Minimum reward filters use the study's total payment, while hourly-rate filters use its displayed pay per hour; GBP and USD thresholds are independent, with no currency conversion.
Can I filter Prolific alerts by keyword?
Yes. Premium profiles can include or exclude keywords in the visible study text. Choose Any or Every included-word matching; excluded keywords take precedence.
Can I change the StudyChime notification sound?
Basic browser alerts can be silent or play a sound; sound requires browser notifications to be enabled. Premium adds custom alert sounds through Appearance & sound.
Help with StudyChime
What should I check if notifications are not working?
Check that Prolific is open and signed in, StudyChime is enabled and your chosen notification method passes a test. Live alerts also depend on visible studies, your active settings and any external-alert quota.
How do I contact support?
Open Settings → Help & support to prepare a support or bug-report email, or email [email protected]. Nothing is sent from an email draft until you review and send it; do not include passwords, licence keys or provider credentials.
